Tips When You Teach Yourself to Sing

When you teach yourself to sing, do you struggle with those high notes and you feel like you can’t hit them? High notes are a big aspect in this business, and tons of people strive to achieve them because of the huge impact higher notes can have to an audience. Luckily, despite the fact that it is difficult to sing higher, there are many ways to get your voice singing those higher notes, not to mention do it on your own by teaching yourself.

Tips when you teach yourself to sing

-Sing basic scales

When you’re practicing, you need to do some good scales in order for your voice to stretch and hit those higher notes. The truth is that any notes that you can’t hit on a scale, you won’t be able to hit in a real song. In order to sing those big notes, you’ll first need to hit them on a scale. The most known scales are the 5 tone scales, and these are wonderful to use if you know how they work. Simply sing MUM on a 5 tone scale, and increase the tone of the notes each time you’re done. This will definitely help you to sing higher. Just stick to the word MUM or GUG because of how nice they are to use on your voice.

-Breathing techniques

There’s a very powerful breathing technique that vocal coach, Eric Arceneaux does to help make the voice get better at gaining more breath. Simply breathe in deeper than you would normally, and then bring it all out on a SHHHHH like you would as if you were telling somebody to be quiet. This helps bring all the air that you have to your throat and out of your mouth. Of course, if you don’t sing with the right technique for your chords to function right, then this technique will only do so much. This is why you should do this exercise a lot, and when you feel ready, try doing the MUM or GUG scales for good chord closure and compression.

-Sing often

There’s no better way to get better than to simply sing more often than you would normally. By singing often, I simply mean to practice a lot throughout the day by singing your favorite songs. This is the one of the best ways to get you singing and really trying to hit those higher notes. Don’t forget that you can really develop most of your natural good sounding voice when you sing a lot, so don’t forget to sing a lot and simply practice your voice.

Trying to teach yourself to sing is all about practice and simply singing often. Remember that emotion plays a big part of your singing, so don’t forget to learn how to emote when you’re singing. Taking voice lessons are always recommended because of the massive improvement you can make when somebody who has experience is there to help you out. Even if you decide not to take a lesson, you can quickly and easily learn on your own by following some of the tips above.
